Our Mission

Musikala’s mission is to raise awareness, appreciation and education of South Asian music and arts in the Greater Washington DC region through music concerts, workshops, and other community events.

We are a completely self-reliant organization that is funded through money raised through events and donations from our patrons. All our Board members are 100% voluntary.

Our Vision

With the growth of the South Asian diaspora in the United States, Musikala envisions connecting the community through exploration of our rich musical and cultural heritage.  Through good quality music, awareness and education, Musikala wants to build enthusiasm and support within the community, especially amongst future generations of South Asians growing up in the USA, to learn and appreciate the rich music and cultural heritage of the subcontinent.  We are not religiously biased towards any faith and will remain completely agnostic.

Objectives

Musikala plans to do the following activities over the next few years:

  • Continue organizing high-quality music concerts featuring both visiting artists from the subcontinent as well as talented musicians based in the United States.
  • Organize workshops and education sessions for students of Indian music (classical and non-classical) conducted by visiting musicians and music academics, across all levels (beginner to advanced).
  • Conduct in-person and online open forums to discuss music from the subcontinent, to help raise awareness and appreciation.  Anyone, irrespective of their music background, can participate.
  • Provide a platform for students of Indian music to perform within the community by organizing Baithaki/Mehfil (house concerts) events.
